01Who we are

Shield Date ("Shield Date", "we", "us") operates this website and the search service described on it. For the purposes of data protection law, we are the controller of the personal information described below.

02What we collect

Information you give us to run a search

• Your first name, and your surname or its initial
• Your age
• Your city or area
• Your email address and phone number
• A photograph of yourself, if you choose to upload one
• Any additional details you add in the notes field
• A coupon code, if you use one

Information you give us another way

If you use our contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address and whatever you write to us.

Payment information

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details are submitted directly to Stripe and are never transmitted to or stored on our systems. We receive only a confirmation that payment succeeded, together with the last four digits of the card and the billing name, so we can match a payment to an order and handle refunds.

Information collected automatically

Our hosting provider records standard technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser type and the pages you view. We use this for security and to keep the site working.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working and to understand how it performs, so we can make it better to use. Some are essential — including those our payment provider sets to process your order securely. You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings, though blocking the essential ones may stop parts of the site working.

03Information about other people

This section matters, and most services like ours do not address it.

A search report may contain material written by other people — posts, comments created by third parties. We handle that material as follows:

• We include it only to the extent needed to show you what was said about you
• We do not build profiles of the people who posted, and we do not retain their information after your report is delivered
• We do not sell, publish or otherwise distribute that material
• We do not contact the people who posted, and we do not tell them a search took place

Once we deliver your report, the copy you hold is yours to control, and how you use it is governed by our Terms of Use. Publishing, redistributing or using it to identify, contact or harass anyone is prohibited, and may expose you to legal liability independent of us.

04Why we use your information

• To carry out the search you paid for and produce your report
• To deliver that report to the email address you gave us
• To contact you about your order if we need to clarify a detail before searching
• To take payment and issue refunds, through Stripe
• To prevent fraud and abuse, including misuse of the service to search for someone other than yourself
• To meet legal obligations, such as tax record-keeping and responding to lawful requests

We do not use your information to advertise to you, and we do not use it to train any automated system.

05Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the following, and only as far as each needs it:

• Stripe — to process your payment. Stripe handles your card data under its own privacy policy.
• Our hosting and email providers — to run the website and deliver your report.

We do not share your information with the platforms we search, with advertisers, or with data brokers. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

06How long we keep it

We delete the details you submitted — including any photograph — as soon as your report has been delivered. This is the commitment we make on our homepage and in our FAQ, and it is binding.

Three things survive that deletion:

• The email we send you. A copy stays in our mail account, the way sent mail does, and it contains your email address and your report. We do not reopen it, use it for anything, or share it, and we clear these out after a reasonable period.
• Payment records, held by Stripe and by us in summary form, because tax and accounting law requires it. These contain your name, email and the amount paid — not your search details.
• Correspondence, if you emailed us, for as long as needed to resolve the matter and then for a reasonable period afterwards.

We keep no working copy of your report. Please save yours somewhere safe.

07Security

We use encrypted connections for the website and for transmitting your report, and we limit access to submitted information to the people who need it to complete your search.

No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Deleting your data promptly after delivery is the most meaningful protection we can offer, and it is why we do it.

08Your rights

You may ask us to:

• Confirm what information we hold about you
• Give you a copy of it
• Correct anything inaccurate
• Delete it

Email support@shielddate.com and we will respond within 30 days. Because we delete submitted details as soon as your report is delivered, in most cases the honest answer will be that we hold nothing beyond a payment record and the sent copy of your report.

09Age

Shield Date is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we will delete it immediately if we discover we have. We will not run a search where the subject appears to be a minor.

10Changes to this policy

We reserve the right to change this policy at any time. If we do, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top. Material changes will not be applied retroactively to a search already completed.
